Donation from Basingstoke
Thanks Serena for your donation. It will certainly keep me busy.
I hope you enjoy reading about my Blanket Project.
The Funsani Blanket Project
During the summer of 2008 I spent 3 weeks visiting Funsani Hospice/Orphanage in Kitwe in Zambia. I had an amazing time and firmly believe what they are doing to help children who have been orphaned through AIDS is so worthwhile.
As well as the children in the hospice, Funsani also help children in the nearby Kwacha community. Over 100 children are cared for by about 9 women.
While I was there I found out that many of the children have little or no bedding and as winter nights are cold I have taken on the task of getting as many blankets made and out to them. Hence - THE BLANKET PROJECT
Many individuals and some groups, have now sent donations of wool, knitted squares or complete blankets.
The Blanket Project is now finished.
Guidelines for Squares
See August Archives for instructions for 2 methods.
I'm originally from Scotland but lived in England a long time, although I have now returned to Scotland.
Until recently I was a primary school teacher.
I did a Charity Trek in China in Apr 2006 raising money for Breast Cancer Care, which was hard work but an amazing experience.
Although the blanket project is finished, I am still involved in helping the Funsani children in various ways and intend returning to visit Funsani later this year. Kathyhenry@btinternet.com
